I purchased this unit from Amazon during one of their lighting deals. I already had it in my wish list and was alerted by Amazon that it was one on sale for a limited time (lighting deal). I jumped at the opportunity to purchase it for what I considered a fair price. Before I put this on my wish list I researched similar RV locks here on Amazon. It seems there are many different brands of this style of lock that all look identical or at least very similar. This brand though, Latch-It, is the one I decided I would keep my eye on.Installation - They aren't kidding when they tell you the minimum size opening this lock requires. You would think all RV-type locks like this would be similar, but the standard RV lock I took off my enclosed utility trailer didn't need as large an opening. I'm a contractor, so I had all the tools and skills necessary to enlarge the opening. What was frustrating though is that I went ahead and enlarged the opening to the stated required size and it still didn't fit. From there it was just a game of trial and error, where I continued to enlarge well above the size they state is needed until I could finally get it installed.Operation - The concept is ideal. I need to get in and out of this tool trailer many times a day and I always lock it when I step out. I just used the push buttons on the keypad of the lock for the first few months, as I wasn't keen on carrying around another key fob. However, once I tried the key fob I was immediately sold. I'm now more than happy to carry the extra key fob every day, as it is so convenient to use.The Keypad - I have two complaints for the key pad. The first, and most annoying, is the need to keep the lock button depressed down for something like three seconds to activate the locking deadbolt. Three seconds doesn't sound like much, but do that multiple times a day for five days a week and it ends up seeming like an eternity. The second annoying item on the keypad is how they double up the numbers, so there really is only five buttons. I'd just prefer they'd somehow squeeze ten buttons in there, but this is not really that big of a deal. The Latch - The latch is horrible. When outside, you have to not only stick your fingers behind the latch handle to pull it out, but you simultaneously have to push with your thumb on the back of the latch handle. The pivot point geometry is either wrong, or the latch mechanism is just garbage. While this is a big annoyance to me, I'm used to it, so I instinctively both pull and push on the latch to get it open. No one else can figure it out without multiple attempts though. I use this enclosed cargo trailer and both my tool trailer and my construction site jobsite office. I have many different people try to open this door throughout the week and they all struggle with it, so it is not just me. You also have to operate the latch handle to get the door to shut. The original RV lock that came with this trailer worked as you would expect, where you could just apply slight pressure to the door and it would latch. There are only two ways to get this latch to close, one is to manually open the latch handle with your hand and then keep the latch handle open while you close the door, then while holding the door shut you can then slowly release the latch handle. The same is true from the inside, while the inside latch handle does operate decent enough by just putting your fingers behind it and pulling (no need to press with your thumb like the outside) but you have to manually open the latch handle while you simultaneously pull the door shut and then once shut, you can slowly release the latch handle. You cannot just simply close the door shut from the inside like you would expect. The Deadbolt - It is actually the deadbolt that is moving in and out when you use the keypad or the key fob to lock and unlock the latch. The deadbolt is very finicky and will often not fully disengage when you try to unlock it. You will have to try to unlock it multiple times, sometimes re-locking, then trying to unlock again, etc., back and forth in order to finally get it fully unlocked. Now, this is likely legitimately caused by weak batteries sometimes. It is however definitely not an issue that can always or even mostly caused by weak batteries. During the Winter, the batteries deplete rapidly. I've started using Energizer Lithium and they last longer, so I would recommend those. Fresh batteries just doesn't always fix the issues with the deadbolt not retracting fully and there is no other rhyme or reason I can figure out, as the problem comes and goes. The Key Locks - If you are like me, you would only use the actual keys as a last resort, like having weak batteries in the unit or some other malfunction that prohibits the use of the keypad or key fob. These key locks are not suitable for Northern climates for sure. They may not even be suitable for wet climates, but up here in Michigan they are almost useless. It is 50 degrees out as I type this review on April 21st. My deadbolt was acting up so bad this morning, that I had to try and get in using the keys. Unfortunately, the keys just won't work because these locks are not suitable to be exposed to the element. Luckily, after about the 20th time of trying to get in with the key fob, the deadbolt retracted just enough to allow me to open the door. I immediately got on my computer and started righting this review before I forgot once again to do it.Bottom Line - I may have just got a bad unit. I probably should have reached out to the manufacturer/seller long ago, but I'm just too busy during the day when I'm having these issues and then when I get home at night I have other responsibilities and I try to put the day behind me.Would I Buy An RV Lock Like This Again - Yes, the concept is great. When the system works as it should, it is fabulous. When it doesn't work, it is very frustrating though. I am going to have to purchase a replacement lock soon, as this one is just too unreliable at this point. I will be researching the other brands available before taking another chance on Latch-It though.I ordered this lock for my 5th wheel camper after having to drill out the factory locks one evening when I lost the keys to it. This seemed like the perfect solution with a pin pad, and key fob. After installing it I realized that the key fob and pin pad only work on the deadbolt lock. The handle lock still requires a physical key to lock and unlock from the outside I like to lock both locks when away, and if I lose my keys again, I will not be able to gain access unless I have the physical key or drill out the handle lock. This lock actually can make it less secure if you only lock the deadbolt. I assumed since there were 2 lock controls on the fob that it controlled both keyholes. You also lose a huge part of the interior handle you use for pulling the door closed. The batteries are where you normally reach your fingers around and grab. as a result you have to use just your fingertips. A person with longer nails would most likely have issues. You cant get a good firm grip of the handle if needed. Otherwise the functioning keyfob and pinpad are nice and operate smoothly. Im left with risking losing keys again, or only locking 1 of the 2 locks when Im away. Knowing this, I most likely would have purchased a lesser priced replacement. This was the absolute best present I have ever bought myself. People want to complain about the price? They need to consider how much a locksmith costs and particularly to drive to a campground. Not to mention the fact that everyone who has your style of RV probably has the same key you do. Safety first! This was a piece of cake to install. Easy to use. Keys, remote controls and your own personal code. This is a MUST HAVE for campers! Oh, and they have a great customer service department. You guys remember what that is, don't you? It"s a system that responds to your emails and questions and helps if you have a problem. Order it NOW! You will thank me later.Super great idea, can’t live without it now.Only quibble is husband’s key fob battery died very early. Replacement battery died again about 3 mo later. Gonna see if this happens again. My fob is fine - still on the first battery.I’m no handy man but this was super easy to install, and we love this item. This was easy to install. Easy to use. We reset the code without any issues. Perfect for what we wanted. No more having to make sure you have the key to get in. We camp a lot and like to sit my the river/water when we camp. This lets us or our kids/friends go back to the camper for things without having to take the keys.We have a 2019 escape 17 and the deadbolt on our door lock broke. After searching around on different review sites I settled on this lock and ordered it. Then I took off on a mountain biking trip for a week. After 5 days I ended up riding some trails about 1.5 hours from home and my wife wanted to join. It was puking rain, so I figured I would go back home, get her and the trailer (I was sleeping in my truck) and come back. Well, I got home, hooked up and remembered I hadn't put the new lock on the door. I opened the package, read the detailed installation instructions, scanned to QR link to installation videos so I would have them on my phone just in case, and went out in the rain to do the install. It took all of 10 minutes start to finish. The new lock fit great, programming the code and key fob was easy and I got it on the first try. I drove back in the rain and the seal seemed to be water tight. The next day we set out riding from camp and I can't tell you how nice it was to not have to carry a set of keys with me. Just punch in the code. My only concern is, what happens if the batteries run out while you have your keys locked in the trailer. I didn't see anything in the literature about a low battery warning system, but I was in a hurry.Set up and installation a breeze, only negative is the beeping when locking and unlocking, would like an official method of silencing, I know that it can be done but concerned alterations to the device may void my warranty.30 minutes for set up and installation.Have to say of all the RV upgrades I have done this one was needed the least, however it it the one I love the most. Install was super easy on my 2017 Forrest River Surveyor. Remove the old one and new one in. The ability to enter the trailer without keys is great, the key fobs work well as does the keypad. We keep our RV at our house and when you buy items for it, no longer need to run into house to grab keys, just straight to the TT, might sound lame, but it is pricelessI had a similar lock from another manufacturer on our other 5th wheel trailer and when we purchased our new 5th wheel it came with two doors. I saw an ad for Latch. It with two locks keyed alike and so I ordered them. They are amazing. Simple install, unlike my previous lock, you get two remotes with each lock and the remotes are top notch. The remote on my previous one was very cheaply made. It is great when we arrive at the RV to hit the unlock button and both doors are unlocked. If you are thinking of buying a new lock for your RV DO NOT look at any other product except Latch.It. As for the confirmation beeps it emits and which a number of people said was the one downside of this lock, I can tell you it is not loud at all. The other unit we had you could heart in your vehicle. Besides the confirmation beep gives you peace of mind that it actually did it’s job.Fit my 2015 Cougar 333MKS without any issues. Installation was easy. Installation guide was well laid out and simple to follow. Programming the lock was easy as well. Batteries were all working, as there were some comments about this device coming with dead batteries. Key fob's work great and programming those was simple as well. Great instructions, very heavy duty trailer lock. Have already recommended to friends.
