Like the product used the conventional one for 30+ years but a young lab has broken 7 plastic flaps in less than 4 years !!! So decided to try the aluminium and rubber flap model ....... rubber flap has a small gap around sides and bottom and magnetic holders do not hold even in a slight breeze PLUS in a half glazed uPVC door the slide in cover can't be used as the top of the panel doesn't allow clearance to slide in so although probably a better item it fails miserably with my uPVC panel door ..... and quite expensive pretty miserable about thisNot noisy. Great magnet keeping it closed in wind and rain. Dogs love it. Perfect for a dog scared of the plastic ones which not only make a noise can sometimes trap a back leg causing great fear and pain. This dog flap cured my dog who was terrified of using a dog flap. He now happily goes through it along with the others because there is nothing to snap onto his legs. I love it and would highly recommend it. No longer are we awakened in the middle of the night by the clackity clack of a plastic flap opening and shutting...Now there is no noise at all...nothing. It is bliss. I would highly recommend this dog flap.The aluminium frame is sturdy and reinforced at corners, but the fixings (machine screws) are plastic and not fit for purpose really - I used them simply to secure the frame in place while copious silicon was setting - they were strong enough for that purpose only.We have the large door (45KG) which is big enough for both my teenagers to squeeze through so additional security measures are required - a slide in door bar in our case which spans the door at the half height point to reduce the opening.The plastic slide in door is fine for keeping the dog in or cats and weather out, but not a burglar proof measure by any means - and the edges needed to be trimmed almost completely off on one side to allow it to be inserted into our as we've fitted the dog door into in a UPVC kitchen door (the cross member means you can't slide it in flush from above - a multi-hinged or flexible insert would be a much better design).Love this doggy door, was very easy install. Didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so used normal wood as the paneling cut by a jigsaw. As you can see on the inside of door I attached a second piece of wood to allow for the closing off insert for when we are not home. I covered all the wood with a roll of PVC white adhesive film and it is perfect. No real issues with the screws apart from using an electric crew driver with one of them which is not a good idea as it took the shape out of the screw but thankfully there is a spare. Got a medium size for my big girl boxer and it’s perfect
