There was a learning curve to installing this and it took much longer than I would have liked. I also don't appreciate the interior and exterior not being flush. When installing, the exterior part sits up higher than the interior component, which made me think I was doing something wrong. My previous lock didn't have this type of design so it was confusing as I tried to figure out why it wasn't lining up. This could be my own personal issue with symmetry but it really didn't make sense to me. Overall, I like the finish and it looks good with my modern door and Berlin Modisch deadbolt.Used this on the back gate and installed without too much of an issue. It works as expected, but I wish it would talk to HomeKit like the deadbolt I have installed. So great I ordered more. The biggest feature for me was that it is always auto-locked and I don’t have to worry about people remembering to lock the door. It is simple and easy to install. I would recommend over more expensive ones that work with your phone. I have those too and they have so many issues. Sometimes simple is better.I am a big fan of Schlage locks, have all Schlage products on all my doors. This was an upgrade in color and style.Installation was simple and the instructions were very easy to decipher. If you ever installed a lock, deadbolt etc. this is no different. This is powered by a 9 volt battery, the keypad is NOT back lit, the keys are lit up by a very bright white LED light that shines down on the numbers from above. There is a little overhang at the top that is not noticeable and that is where the LED is positioned. When you press the Schlage printing at the top that is what turns on the light. The handles come uninstalled on the posts, so depending on the orientation, left hand or right hand door the handles are mirror images of each other so a inside handle on the left hand door would by a outside handle on a right hand door. Once you know what position you need you slide on that handle. There is a release pin if you install the wrong handle by mistake. The instructions are as the photo shows, the point of the curve points down. This allows for up to 19 different 4 number codes to be programmed into the memory. Programming is very easy. The lock comes with a programming number which can be changed if you so desire. After you enter the programming number there are a few simple steps to entering the 4 digit code you want to use with the lock. Its simple to erase a code or erase them all if you so desire. The programming code is on the instruction booklet and there are decals on the inside of both sides of the door lock, so in the worst case scenario you would have to remove the lock from the door to look at the inside to get the number should you lose it.Reading some other reviews there seems to be some confusion on the battery and what happens if it goes dead.First off once the battery starts to weaken the green light that usually flashes will flash red, there will also be a slight delay in the lock unlocking from when you enter the code. So there is a visible indication of the battery getting weak and a physical indication of it taking longer to unlock the lock. Now in the even the battery happens to totally die, well there are 2 pins on the very bottom just under the handle, these 2 posts are battery jumper ports, you take a 9 volt battery and touch it to the posts, this will provide power to unlock the door. This ONLY provides power to enter the code, this does not automatically unlock the door, so someone just can't take a 9 volt battery and open the lock, they still need the code.I would not recommend having a keyless lock as my only means of entry because it is still electrical and there are no guarantees and should this fail you want to have another access into your home. This is used on my inner garage door into my home, should this lock fail I still have front door access with a key lock. I wish Schlage would have had a key in the handle as a backup on this model. Even the locksmith I took my other lock to so it would be keyed to match all my other locks was surprised this had no key to bypass the lock should the electronics fail. This does have a lock / unlock feature as well, meaning you can turn the deadbolt that the lock will remain unlocked, that you can come and go without entering a code, or you can have it in the locked position that you must enter a code each time you use it. This is a nice feature because I am in and out of my garage all the time and the idea of entering a code each and every time would not be appealing and that I can leave it unlocked works well.Overall I am very pleased with how smooth the actions is, how easy the installation was and how simple it is to enter new or delete old codes. This looks amazingly sharp against my red doors, I only wish the numbers were backlit like they have in some of the other models. This door handle/lock is easy to use and program. This one is not as big as most other locks that I have looked at. I needed one to fit under my deadbolt. This one was perfect. It allows you to change the code that lets you enter user codes. I used my six digit birthday so I don't need to remember the one that came with the lock. I love the handle as opposed to one with a door knob. One with a knob is difficult to turn if you have arthritis. It feels very solid.I bought 3 of these, and up till now I loved them. I had yet to change the battery on any of them and they’d worked flawless, until now. (Over two years on same batteries. The metal parts inside the latch assembly (the part that fits into the smaller hole (at the edge of the door,) in which the handle fits through and turns, are very thin and weak and broke off leaving one of my locks useless. However I really do like these locks a lot. As you can hopefully see from the pictures the thicker metal latch that goes into the door frame to secure the door, is forged with a very thin metal piece sticking off of it. The metal there is even thinner than a normal house key would be. It broke in two different places. It’s pretty disappointing. I was actually planning on leaving a positive review soon because of the battery life and aesthetics of the lock, I hardly ever leave reviews but I liked the lock so much. Hopefully I can update this review after some good customer support. Hey a guy can dream! Right? Update: I called their customer service phone number (it took 45 minutes for them to pick up,) but the long and short of it is that they are sending a new latch assembly for free. Very pleased with their customer service. This lock deserves a rating of 5 of 5. It'\s a great lock. It's easy to install. I replaced a conventional front-door keyed, handle door lock. It's definitely sturdy and highly secure. It's rated at ANSI Level 2. A Level/Grade #1 is the highest security grade and is usually found on commercial properties. An ANSI Level #3 is the lowest/basic level door lock, and these locks are usually placed on residential doors. It's unexpectedly simple to select and use a new, private 4-digit combination.I have had this lock for over a year and it has worked with no problem. Not sure why I am supposed to rate its "warmth" and "thickness" (?) so I am ignoring those.I typically use the lock several times a day as it is installed on my back door which I use to let my dogs (or myself) to the yard. Last winter was not the coldest (I am in south-western Ontario) but it clearly was not a problem. I only wish the touchpad was backlit after dark (or after you touch it). Otherwise, it is worth every penny because I no longer have to carry my keys when take the dogs for a walk.I did not install it myself, I gave to my neighbour is a very skilled master of all trades and it took almost an hour and he had to make some adjustments.I purchased the Schlage Century smart deadbolt for my front door and have been really happy with its performance. So purchasing this lock from Schlage was a no brainer when we installed a separate entrance door. Installation was super simple, same as the other smart lock. There are no smart features with this lock, no alerts or anything, but for what it is, it’s a great lock. The black looks super sleek, especially with our french door. I was a little concerned during install when I saw that the two handles sit at different heights (see picture) but everything has worked perfectly. No issues so far that other reviewers have mentioned so hopefully this one lasts a while. This is a great lock, however it is flawed. These locks are simple to install and simple to program and provide sufficient security for an internal use. The major flaw is the electric engagement actuator component. After as little as 6mths use this party fails. If you have no 2nd door to the room or storage area the lock is fitted to you will need to drill out the lock from the front as it does not have a key override. The price is low enough for me to keep reinstalling them when the fail but you have to accept that they will fail. You must take note of the two fitting screw locations as these need to be drilled out to remove the lock.Good looking product, works well. I haven't used it long so I can't talk about realiability but I've had a similar one for years before this. The only odd thing is the parts on the front and rear of the door don't like up vertically. Not a problem as you mainly see one at a time.I like that it locks automatically when you close the door. This feature can be turned off. It also looks very modern. The description however says it uses AA batteries, but not. I buy AA batteries in bulk so was a little disappointed. It uses one of those rectangular batteries. But altogether, I am pleased with this lock.
